With extensive research having illustrated the lack of self-esteem nourishing attributes that individuals with communication apprehension exhibit, the present investigation evaluated the strength of correlations between general and context-specific forms of communication apprehension and self-esteem. College students (N = 40; Mage = 19.48) completed measures that assessed their general and context-specific communication apprehension as well as their self-esteem. General and context-specific forms of communication apprehension were all predicted to be strongly and negatively correlated with self-esteem, and the correlation between interpersonal communication apprehension and self-esteem was predicted to be the strongest out of all contexts of communication apprehension. A linear regression showed a significant relation between general communication apprehension and self-esteem (R = .61, Radj = .36, p < .001). Multicollinearity in the multiple regression prevented the intended test.

This paper presents a meta-analysis of the links between intelligence test scores and creative achievement. A three-level meta-analysis of 117 correlation coefficients from 30 studies found a correlation of r = .16 (95% CI: .12, .19), closely mirroring previous meta-analytic findings. The estimated effects were stronger for overall creative achievement and achievement in scientific domains than for correlations between intelligence scores and creative achievement in the arts and everyday creativity. No signs of publication bias were found. We discuss theoretical implications and provide recommendations for future studies.

Defined as persistence and passion for the achievement of long-term goals, grit is considered vital in determining success within academic contexts. Whilst scales do presently exist to measure grit as a holistic construct, no scale currently exists to measure academic-specific grit. The aim of the present study, therefore, was to develop a new scale for the measurement of academic grit. The newly developed scale, titled the Grit Inventory (GI), was assessed for psychometric soundness utilizing a sample of 109 undergraduate psychology students from The University of Queensland, Australia. Results showed the GI to have sound validity and good internal consistency. Nine of the scale’s twelve items had acceptable item discrimination indices. It was proposed that the GI be used in conjunction with ability tests to determine university admissions, granted that future research could demonstrate predictive validity for the scale. Keywords: grit, grittiness, persistence, academic, academic g.

Dementia represents a substantial threat to the self. However, to date, there is no reliable way to measure how threatened people feel by dementia. This article reports on two online studies. In Study 1, 248 participants rated statements about dementia according to their threat to well-being. In Study 2, 99 participants (all students at the University of the West of England) completed the emerging scale (the Threat of Dementia Scale or ToDS). We validated this by examining its associations with conceptually related measures, including the revised Fraboni Scale of Ageism and the Fear of Alzheimer’s Disease Scale. Study 1 yielded 13 statements that were highly intercorrelated and comprised a single factor. In Study 2, the ToDS demonstrated good construct validity and acceptable test–retest reliability. Higher levels of distancing predicted lower scores on the ToDS. The ToDS is a reliable and valid instrument that is the first statistically validated method of examining the extent to w.

Everywhere in the world, there is growing stress among undergraduates, Malaysia is no exception. The high level of perceived stress will badly affect every aspect of students’ life. Previous studies have well-established the relationship between perfectionism and stress. Perfectionism is associated with mindset, meanwhile, mindset may also be capable of changing in response to stress, which indicates a potential mediating role of mindsets. Therefore, this study examined the relationship between the multidimensional perspective of perfectionism, perceived stress, and mindsets; mediation role of mindsets between perfectionism and perceived stress among the undergraduates from two public universities in Klang Valley, Malaysia. A total of 410 participants were involved in the current study. Data were analyzed through SPSS. Spearman correlation analysis indicates maladaptive perfectionism was significantly related to lower growth mindset and higher perceived stress, while adaptive perfec.

This study looked at the loss of a parent in adulthood and whether this was followed by post-traumatic growth? Participants, 100 bereaved adults, from Pakistan and England, lost parents in the last 10 years. They completed three questionnaires. The study hypotheses were, first, that participants whose bereavement occurred more than five years ago would show significantly higher levels of post-traumatic growth. Second, participants with higher levels of post-traumatic growth would experience significantly higher grief scores. Thirdly, participants with higher levels of post-traumatic growth would show significantly higher levels of coping skills. Two hypotheses were rejected, only one received partial support. Yet, levels of post-traumatic growth were high in this sample. Post-traumatic growth does not follow every bereavement. The authors provide autoethnographic material to challenge this. Circumstances surrounding bereavement during the Covid-19 pandemic, are more likely to lead t.
